The UNESCO Chair is proud to see its Advisory Board member at the top of The Club of Rome. The Club of Rome, a platform for leading scientists, economists, politicians and business leaders to collaborate and promote innovative thinking. 

Shrivastava brings a wealth of management and sustainability experience to his new role. As the former Chief Sustainability Officer of Pennsylvania State University and a visionary leader in these fields for decades. He has held a number of prestigious positions, including Executive Director of Future Earth, where he established the Secretariat for Global Environmental Change Programs. This includes a network of 50,000 sustainability scientists in five global and four regional centers.

As founding Executive-Director of  Future Earth he spoke at the 2016 opening ceremony of the International Year of Global Understanding IYGU, a forerunner of TJD, before becoming in 2018 a member of the Advisory Board of the Jena UNESCO Chair on Global Understanding for Sustainability. This cooperation has been further deepened with The Jena Declaration since 2020 and says: “In these times of polycrisis we need The Jena Declaration and a focus on the cultural , aesthetic  and spiritual aspects to be integrated with scientific, systemic analysis solutions for the flourishing of all." With Paul Shrivastava's election, The UNESCO Chair’s and The Jena Declaration’s visibility and presence in international bodies will be further strengthened.
